Vesper ("we", "us", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use our iOS mobile application.

When you use Vesper, we collect the following information that you provide:
- Basic profile information: Your name (optional), Christian tradition preference (Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Non-denominational, or "Just exploring")
- Notification preferences: Your preferred prayer reminder time and whether notifications are enabled
- Prayer data: Your prayer requests (the text you type before AI generation) and assessment responses (whether you mark verses as "Got it", "Almost", or "Missed it")
- Subscription information: Your subscription status (Free or Pro) and purchase history through Apple's App Store
2. Information Automatically Collected
We automatically collect certain information about your device and how you use the App:
- Device information: Device type (iPhone), operating system version, app version, and unique device identifier
- Usage analytics: How you interact with the app (which screens you visit, how often you generate prayers, whether you use widgets), collected through PostHog
- Error and performance data: Technical information about app crashes and errors, collected through Sentry
- Subscription data: Subscription status and renewal information processed through RevenueCat and Apple's payment system
3. Information Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Your complete prayer journal entries (user input and generated prayers)
- Daily streak tracking data
- Bible verses you've memorized or attempted to memorize
- Your memorization assessment history
- All personal prayer records and journal notes
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes:
- Service delivery: To generate personalized prayers, display your daily verse, track your streak, and deliver push notifications
- App improvement: To analyze usage patterns, identify bugs, and improve features and user experience
- Subscription management: To process and manage your Pro subscription and premium features
- Error monitoring: To identify and fix technical issues
- Customer support: To respond to your feedback and support requests
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may collect information:
RevenueCat
- Purpose: Subscription and payment processing
- Data shared: User identifier, subscription status, purchase information

Sentry
- Purpose: Error tracking and performance monitoring
- Data shared: Error logs, device information, IP address

PostHog
- Purpose: Product analytics and usage tracking
- Data shared: Usage patterns, user interactions, device information

Apple App Store
- Purpose: Payment processing for subscriptions
- Data shared: Payment information and purchase history (handled directly by Apple)

Cloudflare Workers
- Purpose: Secure API proxy for AI prayer generation requests
- Data shared: Prayer request text (encrypted in transit)

Data Retention
- Prayer journal data: Stored locally on your device indefinitely. You can delete individual prayers or all data through the app's settings.
- Subscription data: Retained as long as your subscription is active. After cancellation, retained for billing purposes as required by law.
- Analytics data: Retained by PostHog according to their policy (typically up to 90 days to 2 years).
- Error data: Retained by Sentry according to their policy (typically up to 90 days).
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission to our servers
- Secure storage practices for data on our backend services
- Limited access to personal data by authorized personnel only
- Regular security reviews and updates
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data and account
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format

Deleting Your Data
You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app through Settings → Account → Delete All Local Data. This will permanently erase:
- Your prayer journal
- Your memorization history
- Your streak data
- Your preferences and settings
This action cannot be undone.
Children's Privacy
Vesper is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information and terminate the child's account.
Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided information to Vesper should contact us immediately.
Push Notifications
Vesper uses local push notifications to deliver your daily prayer reminder based on your preferences. These notifications:
- Are scheduled locally on your device
- Are based on the time you select
- Are completely optional and can be disabled at any time through app settings or device settings
- Are never used for marketing or advertising purposes
European Users (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

- Right of access (Article 15): Request confirmation of what personal data we process and obtain a copy

- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document
